OUS BEIJING: Explore Multicultural China
Over the last 20 years, Beijing has taken its rightful place as a global capital city: an international political and financial center. Over that period, the economic and cultural changes in Beijing have been breathtaking and unprecedented.
As a student, then, how do you begin to peel back the layers of internationalization to learn about modern China and modern Chinese society?
The OUS Beijing program goes beyond traditional Chinese language programs, combining:
- an intensive Chinese language program with
- a sociological understanding and day-to-day understanding and
- a two week study tour to rural China where students live with Chinese villagers and participate in village projects and village life
- out-of-class activities out and around Beijing that explore day-to-day life that few foreigners begin to understand
In the end, OUS Beijing students learn to see China not simply from a foreigner’s perspective, but from a Chinese perspective.
The Oregon University System International Programs are cooperative programs to which all students in public universities in Oregon and select private partner universities have access. The programs are predominately reciprocal exchanges that not only send students abroad, but also bring students to Oregon campuses. It is through these direct relationships that students and faculty connect with partner institutions abroad and bring diversity to Oregon universities.
