The Location
Australia’s natural beauty is talked about worldwide with its beautiful beaches, deserts, rainforests, and world-class cities. Australia is an ancient land, geologically one of the oldest on earth. The world’s largest island and the only nation to occupy an entire continent, Australia is the size of the United States, yet has only 20 million people.
Deakin University is located in the state of Victoria on the southeastern tip of Australia. You may choose between campuses in three different cities: Melbourne, a large city renowned for its festivals, restaurants, entertainment, sports, and parks; Geelong, a medium-sized city about 15 minutes from the beach; and Warrnambool, a small town with a friendly, close-knit community.
Accommodations
Deakin University offers both on-campus and off-campus housing options. Students can apply for pre-arranged accommodation as part of the study abroad/exchange application process.
On-Campus Accommodation
Accommodation is available in student residential villages at: Geelong campus at Waurn Ponds, Melbourne campus @ Burwood, and on the Warrnambool campus. Typically, each resident is housed in single rooms and has phone and computer access. There are shared bathrooms, kitchens, laundry and recreational areas. In some locations, students are responsible for preparing some or all of their own meals.
A popular option for the Melbourne at Burwood campus is the International House.
To find out more about accommodation choices visit the housing services page.
Demand for places on campus is high and allocation is on a first come, first-serve basis. Be sure to submit your OUS application on time or early if you would like pre-arranged accommodation.
The Deakin University Student Association (DUSA) will assist students who choose to find off-campus housing through Deakin.
On-Site Support
Deakin University offers a range of services and student support programs from airport pickup, accommodation and orientation services to advising and social activities.
Deakin International has International Student Advisers (ISA) located on every campus. They are there to help, advise and support on campus international students.
Airport Reception
Students arriving at the Melbourne airport can be met free of charge and taken to permanent or temporary accommodation. Students accepted to the OUS program will have an opportunity to sign up for this service.
