Overall Value of the Experience

“The ‘daily grind’ doesn’t exist for me here; there are small adventures in every task.”

I learned things about myself that I never could have learned staying put in one place. You come back different, but it feels like an amazing different.

Academic Program

The only difference is that they weigh your grades differently and your grade most likely depends on one big test or a couple big papers. They don’t have many midterms.

Living in Australia

As far as Australian quotes: “Cheers!” they say this all the time. It can mean “thank you”, “goodbye”, and a bunch of other things. “No worries, mate” (of course). If someone asks you how ya going, and you’re really busy, you say “flat out, like a lizard drinking!”

The people here are great too. Everyone is so healthy!

Finances

Money goes fast here! I love my job at the café. It’s been a challenge getting the coffee just the way they like it, but I’m getting there. The people I work with are great. Everyone seems so genuinely nice here.

Take what you would estimate you would spend and at least double that …. but, I also traveled over the spring break.

On-Site Support

Deakin International has treated all of us so well. The first week here everyone had a 3 day orientation in Lorne, Australia, which is a small paradise town. It was off season but we still went on hikes, learned to surf, learned how Australian football is played and played it…
