About OUS

The Oregon University System International Programs are cooperative programs to which all students in public and private universities in Oregon have access.  The programs are predominately reciprocal exchanges that bring students to Oregon campuses.  It is through these direct relationships that students and faculty connect with partner institutions abroad and bring diversity to Oregon universities.

Oregon University System International Programs Mission Statement

In supporting the academic, cultural and economic priorities of Oregon’s public universities, Oregon University System International Programs seek to provide academic and internship programs abroad for the benefit of the institutions and students of Oregon that:

  • Provide broad access to international opportunities by offering affordably priced programs and providing exemplary support to students.  We seek to take advantage of economies of scale, cooperative relationships, new technologies, and external support.
  • Enhance and diversify the curricula of OUS institutions by offering course work, professional development, research and language training opportunities that complement and integrate with OUS and partner institutions;
  • Promote cultural understanding through opportunities that provide direct contact with host nationals and activities that promote maximum integration in the host culture.  Reciprocal exchanges enhance the cultural diversity of our OUS campuses through the presence of students from our university partners abroad.  This movement of students across national boundaries brings opportunities for greater understanding and personal diplomacy.
  • Offer geographic diversity through programs that serve OUS campus needs, provide access to geographic sites that individual campuses might not sustain alone and that support the cultural and economic priorities of the State of Oregon;
  • Provide opportunities for OUS faculty members to develop international experience through involvement in academic policy decisions on OUS Advisory Boards, faculty teaching exchanges, and as resident directors.

The measures of our success in this mission will be the sustainability of a network of cooperative exchange programs and internship opportunities that produce university graduates capable of being productive global citizens:  graduates who will provide leadership in a complex international and intercultural environment.
